I am not a firm believer in luck, but at this point, I am absolutely positive that I'm the luckiest girl on the planet.

I'm alive.

All you need to know about my life is that I will be moving to Tokyo on March 24th.

life. [10 Nov 2007|12:52pm]
What am I doing?

I'm moving to Japan in February or March. I'll either be living in Osaka or Tokyo, but either place will be fine for me. I'll be teaching English to Japanese children, mostly.. but occasionally to adults and businesspeople. It's pretty exciting, really. I plan on staying until fall-ish. The whole thing doesn't even seem real right now, and I'm not even feeling anxious. I'm sure it will be a different story the night before I leave, though.

Living at home still kind of sucks, but I guess it's not so bad, since I know that I won't be here for much longer. I miss living in Philadelphia, and I miss living in Oakland, California just as much. Having an unclear future made me nervous before I moved back home, but now I'm happy with where my life is going, and I'm happy that it can go anywhere from here.

I'm going to see Broken Social Scene next weekend, and I can't waiiittt. The only other time I saw them was at Coachella, which was awesome, but it will be even better to see them when there aren't fifty bazillion people standing in front of me. It'll be great to go back to Philly too.

Meanwhile, I had a dentist appointment today. I thought a had a cavity, because one of my molars has been bothering me over the past few days. In case you were concerned, it was nothing, and I'm still 100% cavity-free. Thatsright.

I've been looking through a lot of my grandmother's old photo albums lately, and I've found some pretty interesting things.

So, as I'm moving all of my things into my new "place" in the basement, I came across a few fun items. Notes from high school, letters from old pen pals, photographs, drawings, yearbooks, blah blah blah. I came across these two autographed photos (authentic, mind you! haha) that I received somewhere between the ages of 9 and 14.

Fourth grade, anyone? Look at how dreamy he is!

And this one.. which is slightly cooler (although not much rivals the coolness that is JTT)..

So, I figured, what better way to celebrate my first day of not having health insurance than a good, old fashioned car crash? Yayyy.

Oh well. It wasn't my fault, I got a rental car, and I wasn't hurt too badly. My neck is really sore right now, but that's about it. It could have been worse.

I'm posting less words and more pictures lately. I really have nothing interesting to say, and pictures can be just as indicative of what I've been up to.

Another summer ends as quickly as it begins. Autumn will be here and gone before I know it. For as long as I can remember, my summers have just been filled with excitement and adventure, and this one was no different. I've left my mark on the west coast, and I have a job waiting for me in Oakland if I ever find myself there again. I rode my bike across the windy Golden Gate, I wandered through giant redwoods, I had the best sushi I've ever eaten, I walked through Alcatraz, I drove fast down the 405 with the top down on my (rented!) convertible, I ran through Target as it was about to close, only to blink a few times and realize that I really was in a Target in northern California, and this particular one was surrounded by beautiful palm trees, I sat alone on San Francisco piers with the Bay Bridge to my right, the Golden Gate to my left and the San Francisco Bay in front of me. There were nights spent laughing at episodes of Seinfeld until my face hurt, movie nights, date nights, spaghetti nights, quiet nights and alone nights. Summer can temporarily take you away from the real life that you are used to and present you with something completely different.. only to suddenly bring you back down to Earth a few months later.

Last week, I was in Oakland, California. Earlier this week, it was Salt Lake City, Utah. Thursday, Omaha. Friday, State College. Tonight? The Pittston Tomato Festival.

Now, it's time for real life. Jobs, bills, loans, tests, applications. I'm so motivated to do well on my September LSAT and send out my law school applications as early as possible. I'm ready for what's next.

I'm in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hopefully, I'll be home by the end of this week. Even though this cross-country trip is becoming a little longer than we had anticipated, it's still pretty exciting. I'll have lots of pictures by the time I return, but for now..

Last night, I sat in Whole Foods in Berkeley for over two hours talking and eating vegan cake with two complete strangers. Then I rode my bike home and got a flat tire halfway through my journey. It was an eventful evening.

Thursday was spent in a forest full of redwoods.

I love it here. I've slowly slipped into this comfortable routine, and even though there's so much ahead of me, the idea of just staying here and continuing this life sounds so appealing. I'm laying in bed here in Oakland (a bed that was slightly tossed around earlier this week at 4am during an earthquake!), watching television and just having a lazy Sunday, and it feels like home. Okay, so maybe Oakland wouldn't be my first choice for a long-term residence, but it's keeping things exciting for now. The weeks have gone by quicker than I could have imagined, and pretty soon we'll be moving on from this place, and our lives will start a new chapter.

He's my best friend. Around this time four years ago, we were driving nervously through Camden, New Jersey on our way to a Radiohead concert. We were driving all the way to New York City just to catch a movie that we've seen several times already. This time last year, we were living together in Philadelphia and preparing for a week in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Now, we're driving down the northern California coast and later returning to our "home" in Oakland. We're eating the best sushi we've ever had in gorgeous San Rafael. Our sleep is being disrupted by an earthquake. We're spending some of our days separately exploring this beautiful and new environment, only to end up together at the end of the night watching episodes of Seinfeld and falling asleep to the sound of David Letterman's "top ten" list.

Life.

Yesterday, I rode my bike through San Francisco; my eventual destination being Amoeba on Haight Street. On the way, I stopped at a church bazaar at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco. Comparable to Wilkes-Barre church bazaars.. just minus the beer tents, instant bingo and potato pancakes, and replacing them with a tea tent, real bingo and SPAM sushi. Very interesting. I spent a lot of time on Haight Street and probably spent more money than I should have, but I don't mind.

I did a lot of bike riding/walking/exploring today. I started out at Pier 1 in San Francisco, by the Bay Bridge, and I rode over the Golden Gate and into Sausalito. It's such a neat little town.. lots of fun shops and cafes. I walked around for a while, and then I took a ferry back to Fisherman's Wharf. It was a really fun exploring kind of day.. and of course, I took pictures.

Being here has been amazing so far. I'm seeing so much, and I think that I'm taking full advantage of my new surroundings. Sometimes I just get a little bummed because I'm alone a lot. Today was great, but it would have definitely been complete if I had an exploration partner. Now, uh, I'm watching Freaky Friday starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan. My Saturday night is complete.

siiiiick. [09 Jul 2007|08:12pm]
I love living in large cities, but sometimes I get sick of having to be so overprotective of my posessions. My bike was stolen today, which really sucks, especially since it wasn't even my bike. My boss just gave it to me for the summer, and I'm sure she'll be understanding when I tell her about it.. but I just feel miserable that HER bike was stolen. F you, Oakland, and your similarity to West Philadelphia!

Meh.. other than that, my day was pretty good. I explored Japantown today, which just made me want to explore the REAL Japan even more. One of these days..

I enjoyed listening to all of the shopkeepers speak Japanese, and I actually spent about an hour in a grocery store reading food labels, haha. It was a good refresher course, since I haven't spoken or read Japanese since my last class, which was in March!

I really, really want to get another tattoo. I haven't gotten one in about two years, but I'm getting a little antsy. I don't know what, or where, but I want one.

In other news, I am apparently famous back in Wilkes-Barre, haaa.
